Pillowcase Instructions
(At the end of instructions with photos I have posted the
instructions without photos for those who want just the written instructions.)
Fabric Requirements:
Cotton fabric that is 42" - 45" wide
Choose 3 contrasting fabrics
3/4 yard (27") yard main fabric
1/4 yard (9") for the border
2" strip for the trim between the border and the main fabric.
Trim off the selvedge egde on the fabrics and make them all the same width across (42"-45"). I didn't do this until later, but I think it would be better to do it before you begin.
Fold the 2" strip with wrong sides together and press.
Layer the three pieces of fabric with right sides together. Start with the 9" piece, then place the 2" piece on top, lining up the raw edge.
Then place the 27" piece of main fabric on top, again lining up the raw edge.
This photo shows the layering of the three pieces. I have left the selvedge on at this point,
and trimmed them later. After doing this, I think it would be better to trim the selvedge
edges and make the width of the three pieces of fabric even before beginning.

Pin the three layers of fabric together the width of the fabric along the top edge where you have lined up the raw edges.
Main fabric on top.
Border on back.
Contrasting trim in between.
Next, take the bottom edge of the main fabric (27") and roll it up to fit in the space between the bottom edge and top edge of the border (9"). Make a tight roll so that it will fit easily.
Next, take the bottom edge of the border (9")piece and pull it up to meet the pinned edge of the three layers. Repin the edge to make a tube with the main fabric and the 2" inch trim inside.
Sew along the pinned edge using a 1/4" seam allowance, backstitching at both ends.
Next, reach into the tube and pull out the main fabric.
Lay flat and press, pressing the trim toward the border.
If you haven't already trimmed the three pieces of fabric to make them even widths, this is the point at which that can be done.
Fold the pillowcase in half with WRONG sides together, pin and stitch along the top and side using a 1/4 " seam allowance.
Trim corners.
Turn the pillowcase inside out.
Press.
Pin around the top and side of the pillowcase.
Finished Pillowcase.
